Abstract

A chemical process is described for the selective separation of radioactive ions from a high salt content nuclear waste solution, originating from the reprocessing of Materials Testing Reactor (MTR) fuel. The process is mainly based on chemical precipitation and ion adsorption on synthetic zeolite. Excellent values of Decontamination Factors were found for Sr, the actinides, and Cs. The experiments were performed with both simulated and actual wastes. No significant differences were found in the general performance of either solutions. © 1990.
