Abstract

Soils developed over ophiolitic rocks of Tuscany (central Italy) were investigated in order to assess if the soil properties are related to the different parent materials, and to document what genetic processes are taking place in the mild temperate climate. Differences in clay mineral composition were recorded in several weathering stages of the rocks and related soils (transformation of primary minerals, synthesis of new minerals in the soil-water system). As a consequence, an actual soil sequence is proposed for each lithological type investigated. -Authors
