Abstract

In the present work the preliminary results of an experimental study on the effect of video camera speed on the frequency identification in shake table tests by Motion magnification (MM) analysis of a masonry building prototype are illustrated. Motion magnification is a quite recent methodology able to reveal tiny displacement in digital videos. The experiments were carried out on a prototype of a poor-quality historic rubble masonry building typical of central Italy. The prototype underwent low-intensity, white noise, shaking table tests, with dynamic identification after each seismic test. The motion magnification analysis was performed on video footages of the identification tests taken by two different video cameras with different frame speed, i. e. 29 fps and 100 fps, respectively. Results show that the MM of the 29 fps videos estimated well the first vibration mode before damages occurred to the building, while the MM measurements related to the100 fps videos achieved a much better precision after the damages. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
